DANBURY, Mass. - The Valley Blue Sox came into Rogers Park and handed the Danbury Westerners their 18th loss of the season.

It began with Valley jumping ahead early by capitalizing on clutch hitting and baserunning. The top of the second consisted of Nicholas Spaventa scoring to put the Blue Sox up 1-0. Hayden Perry joined the party just an inning later by crushing a solo home run, extending the lead to 2-0.

Perry wasn't going away, as in the fifth inning, he scored again, thanks to Michael Elko making it now 3-0 with Valley firmly in control. The Blue Sox would come to realize that three runs would be all they needed on a night where their pitching didn't let up.

Brendan Matuschat tossed five shutout innings while striking out five batters and allowing four hits. He kept Danbury guessing all night before giving his bullpen a chance.

Aggressive baserunning from Garrett Larsen gave the Westerners their only run of the night, cutting the lead to 3-1. Valley's relievers denied any spark of a comeback from Danbury. Andrew Wertz was the catalyst with 1.2 innings of scoreless pitching and three strikeouts.

The offensive star of the game was Hayden Perry, as he led the offense by going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and the game's sole home run. Not to mention Spaventa, Elko, and Isaac Wachsmann all contributing with hits. Strong pitching from all relievers went a long way in this one.

The win sticks Valley at fourth in the southern division with a record of 15-18 as they head into their third and final game of their road triple header. They have their sights set on Martha's Vineyard to take on the Sharks Friday at 6:35 p.m.
