MSU SILENCES HUGE MARIST CROWD WITH 3RD PERIOD GOAL

(Lucas Longo and Antonio Crispino line up for a faceoff at McCann Arena on Saturday.)

-Poughkeepsie, NY

Jacob Liebross connected on a power play goal 2:23 into the 3rd period to give the Red Hawks the lead, and they were able to hold on for their 2nd conference win.  The goal silenced a packed McCann Ice Arena crowd on Marist's annual "Pink Out" game bringing breast cancer awareness to all in attendance.  The win sees an improving MSU squad got to 2-2 in the SECHL.

It didn't start out well for MSU, however.  Just 4:17 into the contest, when Christian Wilde scored his 6th of the season to give Marist the early 1-0 lead.  However, Anthony Oliveri found the back of the net on a power play, off an assist by Joey Castellano at 15:57.  The two teams would go into the intermission tied at 1 aside.

After a scoreless second period, the teams opened the third looking for a decisive goal in this hard fought game.  After trading penalties for nearly the entire game, in a reversal of fortunes, it was MSU's penalty kill that held the line and their power play was the decisive edge in the win with Liebross scoring with assists from Antonio Crispino and Michael Sadowski.  While discipline was still an issue with the Red Hawks taking four penalties after taking the lead, this time the PK was up for the task and MSU was able to hold on for the win.  MSU will take on Siena on 11/9 looking to avenge their 7-5 loss in which Siena scored only one even strength goal in the contest out of their seven (5 PP, 1 empty netter).  A win would put the Red Hawks above .500 in both the SECHL and overall for the first time this season.
