CLARKSON EARNS SPLIT OVER RED HAWKS

-Potsdam, NY

The fast start that propelled MSU to victory on Saturday could not be recreated on Sunday morning.  Clarkson took control of the play early on in the game, and although Braden Ryan gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead off the rebound of a Tyler Kulbanskiy shot midway through the 1st, Clarkson almost immediately came back to tie, then a minute and a half later, took the lead 2-1 on the power play.

After building their lead to 4-1 on a couple of quick tallies, MSU struck back on the Power Play when Antonio Crispino connected with a Greg Oliveri pass to cut the Clarkson lead in half, at 4-2.  However, a very weak interference call put the Golden Knights back on the PP and although MSU technically killed the penalty, Clarkson scored just after the penalty clock expired to make it 5-2.  MSU looked tired for the remainder of the period, maybe a result of the long bus ride finally affecting them, and Clarkson increased their lead to 6-2 with only 17.1 seconds remaining in the 2nd period.

In a precautionary move after Red Hawks goaltender Cam Carmon apparently took a shot to the neck and head on the same play, MSU freshman goaltender Tony Macaluso was summoned to take over the net for the third period.  Macaluso was tested early and came up with a couple nice saves and MSU was awarded a power play opportunity in which an Anthony Vella shot from the point was put home by Robert Quinn to make it 6-3 game.  The little bit of momentum was stripped away when Clarkson scored another PP goal on a rip from the point through traffic on an almost perfect MSU PK up to that point to make it 7-3.  The Red Hawks didn't quit, and Antonio Crispino answered back to make the score 7-4 and things got ugly.  After a Clarkson spear that left Crispino writhing in pain went uncalled, Clarkson followed with a check from behind on Braden Ryan.  Ryan returned the spear in "symbolic fashion" and a scuffle ensued with both Ryan and a Clarkson player receiving a 5 minute major and game misconducts.  The remaining minutes ticked off without further incident.

The Red Hawks will look to rebound next week versus Connecticut College as their month long road trip continues.  MSU will return home to MSU Ice Arena on December 6th.  Lets go Red Hawks!
