2025-2026 D1 Schedule Released
Date: Jul 7, 2025
(Former Brick HC teammates, L-R Anthony Vella, Brooks Hradek and Braden Ryan gather after the game)
- Montclair, NJ
There were lots of close ties as multiple former teammates from high school and travel days clashed as two Jersey schools met for the first of two games this season. Montclair State hit the ice hard, not looking like a team that had a bug tearing through the roster the week prior. Joe Castellano got the Red Hawks started 11:23 into the 1st period with a goal assisted by Robert Quinn and Ryan Calendrillo, followed by a Jacob Liebross goal a minute and a half later, assisted by Will Neal.
The 2nd period was all Montclair State as well, with Antonio Crispino lighting the lamp off of Calendrillo's second assist on the night at 8:48. Five minutes later, it was Will Neal's turn, giving MSU a commanding four goal lead. Ryan Targove and Anthony Oliveri received the assists. The Red Hawks looked to be going into the second intermission simply needing to remain in control and stay smart. But at the final buzzer, an altercation saw Will Neal receive a 5 minute major for checking from behind and Braden Ryan pick up an additional 2 minute minor for roughing.
The 3rd period saw MSU start down two men with one a major penalty, making the seemingly solid four goal lead look a little precarious. However stellar goaltending by Cam Carmen and excellent penalty killing kept the shutout bid intact and when the full PK was complete, the score remained the same. That was until Anthony Oliveri found the top corner with a shot that seemed to fool everyone, including the goaltender. Eric Kois got the assist at 18:06 of the period, and the Red Hawks held off to record Carmen's first shutout of the year and move to 3-2-0 on the season. MSU will start divisional play next weekend with a trip up to three time defending SECHL champion Army on Friday, and then return to Montclair State University Ice Arena on Saturday at 8:30pm for a tilt with Siena.
