MSU EARNS FIRST WIN OVER BLUE HENS

- Newark, DE

There were several "firsts" during MSU's game at the University of Delaware this evening.  Most importantly, the Red Hawks earned their first win of the season, by the score of 3-2.  With possibly the most complete roster MSU has iced in several seasons, the win also marked the first time in eight tries that the Red Hawks defeated the Blue Hens, a traditional ACHA powerhouse.  Speaking of the roster, two freshmen tallied their first collegiate goals.  Ryan Targrove opened the scoring in the 2nd period, followed by Antonio Crispino to give MSU a 2-0 lead entering the second intermission.

Delaware closed the gap with just under 10:00 left in the 3rd period, but another "freshman first goal" by Eric Kois gave the Red Hawks their 2-goal cushion back.  The Blue Hens wouldn't go away, scoring another with their goaltender pulled, but that came with only 9 seconds remaining, and MSU held on.  Cam Carmon was brilliant between the pipes with 31 saves, and finished as the #1 Star of the game.  Greg Oliveri had a strong outing with 2 assists.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow night at MSU Ice Arena for the Red Hawks home opener at 8:10 pm where they will look to sweep the home and home series.
