JV / VARSITY REGISTRATION
Date: Jan 13, 2025
Congratulations to the 2024 Islandwide award winners!
JV:
MVP: Donovan Butler - Bellmore-Merrick: Donovan followed up last year's Middle School 45 points with 55 his first year playing JV. The goalscorer helped Bellmore-Merrick finish the season undefeated. Butler's 45 goals was 20 ahead of the next player.
MVG: Jack Alvy - Bellmore-Merrick: Alvy led the league in wins (11) and goals against average (3.64). His .790 was second in the league and he had two shutouts as he backstopped the Bulldogs to an undefeated regular season.
Most Improved: Aidan Buscarino - Smithtown: Smithtown has a whole improved as the season progressed and Buscarino was a big part of that as he led the team with 23 points.
Tier 1 Playoff MVP: Colin Kurtzman - Plainedge: Kurtzman tied for the team lead in the playoffs with four points as he was also tasked with the role of playing shutdown defense against some of the leagues best. Kurtman's ability to control the game from the back end is very impressive.
Tier 2 Playoff MVP: Gavin Zucker - Roslyn: Zucker had five playoff points including three in the final game. Zucker's most impressive performance of the playoffs came in the dying seconds in the final when he saved what would have been a game-tying goal on the goal line.
Varsity:
*MVP: Dante Scibelli - Farmingdale: Scibelli played in all of Farmingdale's games this season and in every one of them he was a threat when he was out on the rink. He led the league in goals and points, and is one of those players who would be an asset to any team. Dante totaled 162 points in 52 Islandwide games in his high school career.
*MVG: Corey McGovern - Islip: Not many goalies faced as many high danger chances against the leagues best the way McGovern did for three seasons. The high-flying, high-risk Buccaneers constantly put Corey in precarious situations that the netminder was able to handle more often than not. His efforts constantly gave Islip a chance to win, if not steal a game.
Playmaker / Most Assists : Jack Rhein - East End: Rhein's vision and puck-moving ability was an asset this season as he led the league with 22 points. Rhein finished his school career with 99 points in 51 games.
Most Improved Player: Nick Divittorio - College Point: The younger Divo has come a long way since College Point's Middle School season a couple of years ago. The younger College Point Stars played in a much more experienced Varsity division this year and Nick was a big force in keeping them competitive in games.
Tier 1 Playoff MVP: Anthony Gomez - Middle Country: The Cougars secured their Varsity title and Gomez was a massive part of that. His key saves during wins against Islip and East End proved to be the difference maker as he finished the two games with a 3.00 GAA and .872 save percentage.
