Grant Umberger returned to the Gulls this past season after pitching for them two years ago in 2021.  In his second season in three years, Umberger was a key contributor in helping the Gulls bring back the Fay Vincent Sr. Cup to Newport. This was highlighted in Game 2 of the championship series at Bristol striking out an impressive 11 batters in just 5.1 innings pitched. The Pennsylvania native was lights out in the postseason, posting a 2-0 record, 16 strikeouts, and 0.00 ERA in 11.1 innings.  

For Virginia Tech, he posted a 2-1 record with a 6.08 ERA striking out 30 in just 23.2 innings of work.  His best game came on March 28th against Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Umberger struck out six batters, giving up one earned run in just four innings of work which helped Virginia Tech earn a 9-7 win. Umberger will play next season for the University of Toledo.
