TVERBERG SIGNS THREE-YEAR DEAL WITH MAPLE LEAFS

The Toronto Maple Leafs organization announced today that the hockey club has signed former Ontario Junior Hockey League forward Ryan Tverberg (file photo by Owen Mertens / OJHL Images) to a future three-year, entry-level contract. The average annual value of the contract is $851,667. 

Tverberg, who starred with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the OJHL, will join the Toronto Marlies on a professional tryout for the remainder of the 2022-23 regular season and the Calder Cup playoffs.

Tverberg, 21, recorded 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 35 games with the University of Connecticut (NCAA) this season. The Richmond Hill, ON native has posted 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) through 85 career NCAA games.

"The Maple Leafs organization is very thankful to the University of Connecticut," said Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas. "Ryan's development through his three seasons with the Huskies and subsequent signing today is a testament to the tireless work of head coach Mike Cavanaugh and all the staff within the UConn men's hockey program."

In the 2021-22 season, Tverberg earned a nomination for the Hobey Baker Award. He was also selected for the NCAA (Hockey East) First All-Star Team and the NCAA (East) Second All-American Team.

Tverberg was originally drafted by Toronto in the seventh round (213th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.

His OJHL resume reads:

• In his only full season with the Canadiens, Tverberg had 51 points (26G/25A) in 47 games. (He played nine games with the OJHL team as an affiliate from the Canadiens AAA U18’s in 2018-19)

• Tverberg scored a goal to help Team Devin Shore win the Prospects Game during the OJHL All-Star Celebration in Oakville Nov. 30, 2019.

• He was on NHL Central Scouting’s Watch List throughout the entire season.

• Tverberg was a member of Team Canada East, which won silver medals at the World Jr. A Challenge in British Columbia Dec. 15.

• He played in the CJHL Prospects Game in Hamilton Jan. 14, 2020.

• He was named to the OJHL and Ontario Hockey Association postseason All-Prospects teams.
