Milton Menace Preview: Menace vs Burlington Cougars - March 1, 2023

It’s the final week of the OJHL regular season and the Milton Menace will kick off their last set of games on Wednesday against the Burlington Cougars at home. Wednesday will be the final Menace home game of the regular season.

The Menace are coming off a strong week, going 2-0-1-0 in three games. Their most recent game was on Sunday against the Haliburton County Huskies. The Menace got down 4-2 in the second period but scored four unanswered goals to come back and win. Lucas Buzziol and Connor Driscoll each picked up two goals while Justin O’Donnell and Aidan Hughes each grabbed one.

Several Menace players have dominated offensively over the last stretch. Driscoll has five goals in his last three games and Jared Coccimiglio has put together an eight-game point streak. He has recorded four goals and nine assists for 13 points since Feb. 8.

Burlington comes into this game riding an eight-game win streak. Their last loss came on Feb. 4 in Collingwood. They beat Aurora 3-2 in their most recent game on Friday. Wednesday will be Burlington’s final regular season game. The Cougars’ record this season is 38-12-1-2, and they sit third in the North/West Conference.

These teams met on Feb. 10 in Burlington when the Cougars beat the Menace 5-4. Milton won the first two meetings, leading the season series 2-1.

Burlington has been a dominant offensive team all season. Cougars forward Jack Richard leads the league in goals with 53 and is third in points with 86. They rank second in goals per game, averaging 4.74 and rank third and fourth in penalty kill and power play, respectively. This game will be a major test defensively and a great game to gear up for the playoffs.
