The West Virginia ACHA Women’s hockey team defeated the Mercyhurst University Lakers 8-2 at Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena, with Ally Schwind starring with five goals.
The Mountaineers took an early lead just 68 seconds into the game, as Stephanie Chmiel scored on a power play, assisted by Jana Garrow.
An unassisted goal by messer with 15:48 to go in the first period made it 2-0.
The Lakers scored with 8:12 left in the period to cut the WVU lead in half, but the Mountaineers regained their two-goal lead just 32 seconds later when Ally Schwind assisted Garrow.
And with 6:14 to go on in the first, Schwind scored an unassisted goal of her own to make it 4-1.
West Virginia added a fifth goal with 16:23 left in the second period when Schwind scored her second of the game.
The Lakers scored with 13:17 to go in the second to make the score 5-2.
The four-goal lead was scored when Julianna Baibos set up up Schwind for a hat trick to put West Virginia up 6-2 with 8:23 left in the period.
Schwind then scored her fourth goal of the game with 4:56 left in the second, again assisted by Baibos, with Baibos and Abby Lewis assisted her with 1:58 to go for her fifth goal to make the score 8-2.
The Mountaineers and Lakers face off again tomorrow at 4:00 for WVU’s Senior Night.
