Milton Menace Preview: Menace at Markham Royals- February 5, 2023

The Milton Menace are heading to Markham on Sunday for a rare afternoon battle against the Royals. The Menace are looking to get back in the win column after a 5-2 loss in Toronto to St. Michael’s on Friday night. The loss brings the Menace’s overall record to 26-14-1-2.

Sunday’s game will be the last regular season meeting between these two teams. Milton won the first three games of the season series, but Markham took the fourth. Just one of the four meetings this season needed overtime to find a winner.

That most recent meeting was just over two weeks ago, on Jan. 17, when the Royals bested the Menace 3-1 on Milton home ice. Aidan Puley scored Milton’s lone goal, with Owen Forester and Jared Coccimiglio picking up the assists. Forbes Andersen made 28 saves in the loss.

The Royals come into Sunday looking for their fifth straight win. They recorded an 8-4 win over Caledon on Friday night. Markham sits seventh in the North/West Conference with 39 points.

Special teams could be a significant difference-maker in this matchup. The Royals sit 18th in penalty kill percentage and 21st in power play, while the Menace sit 7th and 8th league-wide in penalty kill and power play, respectively. It’ll be up to Milton to use their strengths to take advantage of any opportunities.

Sunday’s game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 from Markham Centennial Arena and will be available to stream live on Hockey TV.
