DESPITE A STRONG SHOWING FROM RANDY REYES, CATS LOSE 4TH STRAIGHT

Date:  Source: North Adams SteepleCats

North Adams, MA- The North Adams SteepleCars are perhaps the streakiest team in the entirety of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. They have played fourteen games this season and here's a summary of how these games have gone: seven straight losses, three straight wins, and now the Cats are slumping as they've lost four in a row.

Let's take a trip through last night's affair between the Bristol Blues and the North Adams SteepleCats. Bristol is arguably the hottest team in the entire league but they didn't quite show it early on.

The starting pitcher for North Adams, Central Connecticut State's Randy Reyes, was absolutely dealing. Through four innings he held the Blues scoreless and allowed only two hits. Unfortunately for the Cats, Bristol's starting pitcher Colin McVeigh was just as dominant.

McVeigh tossed four scoreless frames as well making the SteepleCats look foolish with his array of off-speed pitches. McVeigh seemed untouchable as he finished his night with eight strikeouts.

Both Reyes and McVeigh allowed a run to come across in the fifth inning, so they'd each get a no decision. This would be a game of the bullpens.

Alex Fenton came into relieve Reyes in the sixth inning and it was all pretty much downhill from there. The Blues would go on to plate three runs in the inning capped off by a Chaz Myers two-run single.

The bottom of the Bristol lineup did the most damage last night. Myers and center fielder Calvin McCall could not be stopped as the two combined to go five for seven on the night.

The games ended up concluding early as in the bottom of the eighth inning, the umpires decided to call the game because of a busted light. One of the lights in left field had completely gone out and the officials deemed it to be too unsafe.

Honestly, the field didn't look any less dark and the light had actually been off for two whole innings before the umpires actually did anything. It appears as if North Adams may have to start their games at an earlier time from here on out.

The SteepleCats play again tonight in an away game White River Junction, Vermont as they look to avenge their embarrassing 19-8 Father's Day loss against the Upper Valley Nighthawks. Austin McKinney will take the mound for the SteepleCats. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m.
