OMANS HURLS A GEM AS CATS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

Date:  Source: North Adams SteepleCats

Sanford, ME- They've done it! The North Adam SteepleCats have one three in a row, and according to the 1994 film Major League II, it's called a winning streak!

After starting the 2022 season an abysmal 0-7, the Cats have stormed back to take the next three games. This one was definitely more of a nail-biter than the previous two.

Cooper Omans was on the bump for North Adams and would go up against Vanderbilt's Kyle Magrans. Both were absolutely stellar on the day.

The low-scoring affair got going in the top of the third as the Cats' shortstop Tyler Epstein and college teammate of Omans led off with a single, and after two wild pitches and back-to-back strikeouts, Epstein was standing on third with two men down.

Who else would come up clutch in an RBI opportunity than Ryan Galanie? Coming into the game, he was tied for the team lead in runs batted in, and he took sole possession of the lead with an RBI single between shortstop and third base.

It appeared to be the only run that would be scored all game. Cooper Omans was cruising. He pitched himself out of two tough jams, including bases-loaded two outs in the fourth, where he snuck a fastball by David Bermudez to get out of trouble.

Omans went six scoreless while striking out five as Austin McKinney took the mound and pitched a scoreless seventh. In the eighth, the SteepleCats picked up an insurance run as Scott Jones led off with a walk.

Hunter Pasqualini then pinch-hit for Alex Lane and laid down one of the most beautiful bunts you'll ever see down the third-base side. Third baseman David Bermudez threw the ball away, and Scott Jones came around to score, and it looked as if he was scoring from first on a triple rather than an error! The Cats' lead was 2-0.

Will Hearn came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth and quickly retired the side. The southpaw hurled a 1-2-3 ninth, and the Cats winning streak continued!

Cooper Omans sounded so humble after the game. He deflected all the credit to his teammates, talking a lot like Roy Halladay! You can watch his shenanigan-filled interview here: https://twitter.com/SteepleCats/status/1537985812813320193.

The SteepleCats will be back at it again in another away game. They'll face the Bristol Blues as Cole Zaffiro takes the mound for the Cats. First pitch is at 6:30.
