Mystic picks up fourth straight win Friday night

NORWICH, Conn. — The Mystic Schooners baseball team (5-2) scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to cap a 5-3 regular season series win against Danbury on Friday night at Dodd Stadium. 

 

Addison Kopack (University of Rhode Island) began the bottom of the eighth inning with a leadoff walk. Two batters later, Eddie Micheletti (George Washington University) delivered an RBI triple to drive in Kopack. Micheletti would then steal home on a wild pitch from the Westerners to lift the Schooners to their fourth straight victory. 

 

Charlie McDaniel (Presbyterian College) logged a quality start in his second outing of the summer. The southpaw went 5.0 innings of work that saw the Lake Mary, Florida native record a season-high five strikeouts while giving up one run on three hits. 

 

Mystic looks to secure its fifth straight win on Saturday at 6:30 pm with Jake Noviello taking the mound for the Schooners against Martha’s Vineyard. 

 

GAME NOTES: 

- Connor Harris (George Washington University) recorded his first win of the season throwing 1.2 scoreless innings of work in relief. The 6-foot-8 right hander recorded two strikeouts on the night, bringing his season total to seven in three appearances. 

- Anthony Donofrio (Quinnipiac University) was named the 108 Drink Player of the Game. In his Schooners debut, Donofrio went 3-for-3 at the plate with an extra-base hit (triple) and two RBIs.  

- Micheletti recorded his first multi-hit game as a Schooner in his debut, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. 

- Mystic stole three bases on the night, bringing their NECBL leading number to 29 stolen bases through seven games this season.

 

UP NEXT: Mystic will travel to Martha’s Vineyard for a Coastal Division showdown tomorrow night. First-pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm EST at the Shark Tank.The game will be streamed on the NECBL Broadcast Network, with live stats and streaming information available on schoonersbaseball.com.
