NO POWER OUTAGE FOR PICKERING PANTHERS AT CENTENNIAL CUP

Date:  Source: Ontario Junior A Hockey League

The folks back home may have been dealing with a widespread power outage.

The Pickering Panthers? Not so much.

Dustin Hutton had a hat trick and added three assists, and the Panthers scored five unanswered goals in the third period to double up the hometown Estevan Bruins 10-5 and stay undefeated at the 2022 Centennial Cup.

“I think the kids realized in the second intermission [tied 5-5] that we have a chance,” said  Panthers head coach Rob Pearson. “We knew we were playing against a great team and maybe we had them on the ropes a little bit as we were able to keep hanging around. We’re in a tough pool, but we can’t take the foot off the gas; we have to keep pushing and let everyone know the Pickering Panthers are here.”

That’s 19 goals in two games for the Panthers, who opened the tournament with a 9-2 win over Red Lake, ON Thursday

The 2-0-0 Panthers play Quebec’s 1-1-0 Collège Français de Longueuil Sunday night in the third of their four round-robin games at the 10-team tournament.

Ian Martin had two goals and three assists and teammate Jake Partridge one goal and two assists Saturday.

Andrew Ballantyne picked up the win for the Panthers, who outshot Estevan 36-31.

The power outage? Durham Region, including Pickering, was rocked by a major storm Saturday afternoon. Thousands of homes across Southern Ontario remain without power Sunday afternoon.
