Premier Delta Blue Jays Take Top Spot at the
Best of the West 2022 Tournament
May 2022 Kamloops, BC
Combine the strength of the Jays pitching staff, a bunch of key hits, and the team’s drive to pursue wins and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a championship! The Premier Delta Blue Jays took the championship spot at this past weekend’s Best of the West Tournament in Kamloops where they faced the North Shore Twins, Big League Experience, Vauxhall, ABC Academie, and the Victoria Eagles.
Game one versus the North Shore was a great game like it always is against the Twins. Everett Swaim started, followed by Noah Thomas with a big hold, and Ryan Heppner finished it off. The new kid on the block, Kenny Scott, had a big game going 2-2 with a triple and a double and the team wrapped up the win with a final score of 3-2.
Game two against BLE was a rain shortened 5 inning game in which Carson Latimer closed the game after racking up 7 strikeouts. Kyle Matsunuma came up solid with 2 hits and the Jays took the win 3-0.
In Game three versus Vauxhall, Ryan Heppner started, struck out 8 over 5 innings and touched 90mph. Jays and Vauxhall tied 2-2.
In game 4 of the Playoff round versus ABC Academie (Quebec), the boys came out fiery, led by Hayden Cuthbertson, the most entertaining pitcher in High School baseball, with 10 strikeouts over 4 ⅔ innings and hitting 90mph. There were lots of hits for the boys with Noah Bourgeois and Kyle Hepburn leading the squad with 2 hits each. The team wrapped up the win 10-2.
The game five final against the Victoria Eagles was a tight one until the 6th inning when Malakai Dubreuil had a clutch hit to tie the game. With solid pitching by all three of the Jays' Noahs (Thomas, Del Rosario, and Bourgeois), the Jays were able to clinch the championship spot with a 5-2 win.
GM, Gerry White, is proud of all the players; the way they played, conducted themselves, and represented the program. Great job by head coach Jack Thompson, assistant coach Brody Hawkins, and the rest of the staff.
