MEET THE FINALISTS: NCAA DI COMMITS, OJHL ALL-STARS ON JR. CANADIENS ROSTER

Ron Valentine profiles the players participating in the 2022 Ontario Junior Hockey League Nutrafarms Championship Series.

The South-East Conference champion Toronto Junior Canadiens:

4.  BEN LORETO (D) Playoff points 0-1-1. Assistant captain Ben is a former Brampton Bomber who had 25 points and 86 penalty minutes in the regular season.

7.  HAYDEN HEINRICH (D) 1-4-5. Hayden also had a 25-point regular season. In the 2019-20, campaign he suited up for the GOJHL's La Salle Vipers. In 2018-19, he played a handful of games for the Cobourg Cougars.

8.  CARTER REAL (F) 0-0-0. Carter Real had a 17-point rookie season after coming up through the Oakville Rangers' minor hockey system.

9. TYLER FUKAKUSA (F) 5-6-11. Tyler finished third in the OJHL with 88 points and currently leads the club in playoff points also. His 67 assists led the league. He will play for NCAA Division I RIT beginning in 2023. Tyler was named to the OJHL First all-star Team.

10. JACOB BIGRAS (F) 1-3-4. A native of Boisbriand QC, his twin brother Jeremy also is on the roster. He has been team captain on two minor hockey clubs.

11. LIAM FEDAK (F) 3-7-10. Team captain Liam missed 23 regular season games due to an injury but still managed to record 29 points. Now in his final junior season, he played in 2018-19 for the St. Thomas Stars in the GOJHL.

12. KYAN HALDENBY (F) 3-4-7. The 18-year-old rookie has really come into his own in the playoffs after a 17-point regular campaign. He was drafted in 2020 by the North Bay Battalion.

14. COOPER BERTRAND (D) 3-0-3. Cooper scored a league high of 15 goals for a defenceman and finished tied for fourth place in blueliner point scoring with 43. Cooper is from Caledon. Cooper was named to the OJHL's Second All-Star Team.

16. ZEV PODOLSKI (F) 1-3-4. The former Newmarket Hurricane and Burlington Cougar is in his first full season with the J.C.s. He had  a 30-point season. 

19. MICHAEL EFTIMOVSKI (D) 0-0-0. The 19-year-old played 50 regular season games, compiling 28 points, but has been sidelined for the playoffs. He played the 2019-20 season for the CCHL's Ottawa Junior Senators.

20. MATTHEW WILDE (F) 3-5-8. Matthew had a breakout season with 81 points, good for fourth spot in the league standings. His 39 goals scored put him in third place in that category in the League. The 20-year-old has one season of junior hockey eligibility remaining. Like Bertrand, Matt was named to the OJHL’s Second All-Star Team.

23. CHRISTIAN CATALANO (F) 4-6-10. Christian had a 73-point regular season that included 34 goals, good for seventh spot in the OJHL. He also racked up 100 penalty minutes, one of only six players to reach that number. He will join Fukakusa at RIT starting in 2023. He will miss Game 1 of the Buckland Cup final due to suspension. He was drafted in Round 5 of the OHL’s U16 Priority Selection by the Owen Sound Attack in 2019.

24. JAKE SEDEROFF (F) 0-3-3. Jake had a 19-point rookie campaign. In 2020, he was drafted in round  by the Erie Otters. 

25. JORDAN KARAFILE (F) 2-1-3. Another player in his first season with the club. He had 17 points in the regular season. In 2020, he was drafted by the Guelph Storm.

26. ZACH SANDHU (D) 0-0-0. At 16 years old, Zach has already suited up for the OHL's Guelph Storm. He played this season for the GOJHL'S Jr. B Ayr Centennials contributing 20 points from the blueline.

29. SELBY WARREN (G) GAA 2.10 with two shutouts. Selby is a graduate of St. Michael's College school and played in 2019-20 for the Toronto Patriots. This season he recorded a GAA of 2.02  and posted 25 wins, tied for tops in the OJHL. He also had four shutouts to his credit.

 

30. CHRISTIAN TRIANNI (G) GAA 0.80 in 75 minutes play. The Stouffville native had  2.34 GAA and three shutouts. He spent some time with Cranbrook in the BCHL in 2020-21 but did not appear in any regular season games.

55. JORDAN FIELDING (D) 1-5-6. Jordan is in his last season of junior and his first as a J.C. In 2019-20, he suited up for the NOJHL's Cochrane Crunch.

58. ADAM BARKLEY (D) 0-1-1. Adam is from Inkerman ON and played in the CCHL for the Kemptville 73's. He played 13 games this season for the Mississauga Steelheads, who drafted him in Round 3, 46th overall, in 2020.

71. BRAD DITILLIO (F) 2-2-4. St. Catharines-born Brad played the 2019-20 campaign for the Thorold Blackhawks of the GOJHL and started this season with the Haliburton County Huskies.

77. SIMON SINGHER (D) 0-3-3. From St. Jean-sur-Richelieu Simon played in 2019-20 for Stansted College. In 2018, he was drafted by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL.

81. BRETT BOUCHARD (F) 1-0-1. The 17-year-old played a dozen games this season for the North Bay Battalion. He was drafted by them in the ninth round of the 2021 draft.

88. ERIC VITALE (F) 3-3-6. The 19-year old had 36 points despite missing seven games in the regular season. In 2019-20, he tallied 30 goals for the Winchester Hawks in the EOJHL.

93. JEREMY BIGRAS (F) 0-0-0. Twin brother of Jacob, Jeremy had 21 points in 44 regular season contests.

94. BEN VAN WATERSCHOOT (F) 5-2-7. The Whitby native had a 15-goal, 31-point regular campaign. He was an assistant captain of the Brantford Bandits of the GOJHL in 2019-20 and before that played a handful of games for the Pickering Panthers.
