On Saturday, GMU pocketed another victory against Temple University on their turf in Philadelphia. The grueling match up ended with Mason on top with a score of 4-2.
GMU started off the period on the offensive with a goal 2 minutes into the first period scored by senior, Kael Dillon top left corner (Booth). Keeping Mason on their heels, Temple scored two consecutive goals just minutes later. Dillon did not let Temple keep their lead for much longer. The team battled for the puck out front, it was picked up by Dillon and pops it into the net with 10 minutes left of the first period, tying the score (PP; Miranda).
Mason held a tight defense in the second period. Junior goaltender Tanner Rusnak shut down the Owl’s attempts to make a comeback. In the last two minutes of the period senior Ryder Clarke sniped one high glove furthering GMU’s lead to 3-2 (Jasanis).
Returning to the ice in the third period Mason’s offense stayed sharp. 5:25 into the third, Ryder Clarke snaps another one past Temple’s goaltender. Mason’s penalty kill stayed quick in the end of third period being shorthanded for the last two minutes. Rusnak remained quick off the mark in the third, keeping the Owls shut out for the remainder of the game.
