GMU sweeps the weekend with two victories against IUP. On Friday, the Patriots played hard, coming out with a score of 5-1.

The first period was back and forth between teams controlling the puck. Either team was unable to capitalize on their shots during the first period, the score remaining 0-0 until the second period. Goaltender Lukas Heuberger was quick to shut out IUP’s advances.

IUP was first to score in the second period in a two on one. The Patriots were quick to tie up the score, taking advantage of a power play. Matthew Price, winning the face off, takes a shot on net that is stopped by the IUP goaltender. Mike Miranda follows up with a rebound shot, still IUP’s goalie makes the save. The puck, still loose, is then jammed in by Joe Petite, bringing the score to 1-1.

The third period remained 1-1 until the last five minutes of the game. With 4:33 left in the third, Raymond Booth wins control of the puck behind IUP’s net and passes it to Will Magrath who is able to put it in net. With 2:57 left, Patrick Chapman gains control of the puck in our zone passing it across ice to Kael Dillon. Dillon carries the puck past the blue line, taking a wrist shot that flies past IUP’s defensemen and goaltender. The next play Dillon wins the faceoff passing it back to Magrath who dumps it in IUPs zone. Magrath recovers the puck deep in their zone and passes it out front to Raymond Booth, sniping it past the netminder, making the score 4-1. A penalty is called on the Crimson Hawks for unsportsmanlike conduct, putting GMU on the power play. With 1:22 seconds left; Matthew Price carries the puck over the blue line back into IUPs zone. He passes the puck across to Joe Petite who then passes the puck out front to Kael Dillon who scores his second goal of the night.

IUP follows up with a shot that makes it over right pad, tying the score. In the last two minutes, Price passes the puck up from the slot to Dillon in the face-off circle. Dillon takes a wrist shot that finds the back of the net for another power play goal.
