George Mason hockey is hot off the press from a big win against Lehigh last Friday and a tough overtime loss to Duquesne on Saturday. The team avenged their loss from earlier in the season against Lehigh. Mason was in control for much of this game, leading to a 7-4 win. In a game which featured physical play by both teams, Tim Contos netted himself a hattrick and earned first star that night, to cap off a great team win. The win against Lehigh currently positions George Mason to advance to postseason play in the Easter Collegiate Hockey Association.
Saturday’s game against Duquesne was a thriller that ultimately ended in disappointment. There were momentum shifts back and forth the entire game. Mason trailed 3-1 early in the second period, only to come back and lead 4-3 at the end of the second period. The fourth Mason goal was an absolute highlight reel between the legs goal by forward Cam Smith, and at that point it looked as though Mason would run away with the game. Mason added another goal early in the third period to score 4 unanswered goals and take the 5-3 lead. Unfortunate circumstances occurred and Duquesne was able to claw their way back to tie the game late in the third, and eventually win it in overtime. Regardless of the outcome, Mason showed their resilience and ability to come back from a large deficit.
