Tons of changes at the deadline for the GHawks

Date:  Source: OJHL Trenton Golden Hawks

The Trenton Golden Hawks have been away from the rink since December 19th, however Coach Peter Goulet and his staff have kept very busy, making numerous moves.

Jordyn and Trystan Mughal are going to the Georgetown Raiders (OJHL) for a Player Development Fee.

Caden Kekewich has been signed by the Amherstview Jets (PJHL) for a Player Development Fee.

Signing in the U.S Premier Hockey League in the National Collegiate Development Conference are Julien Jacob and Matt Cato to the Jersey Hitmen, and Brannon Butler to the Boston Advantage.

Trenton Coach Peter Goulet says, “It is tough to lose Jacob, Cato, and Butler.  These three young men decided to play in areas where hockey was not shut down by the government.  All three men have indicated that if hockey returns to play in Ontario, they will apply to Hockey Canada for reinstatement to Trenton.”

Coach Goulet made a trade to Blind River (NOJHL).  Going to the Beavers is Jake Kovacs for 17-year old Jackson Barnes.  “Barnes is a young man that will help shore up the back end.  We think this move is also going to benefit Kovacs. We wish him nothing but the best.”  Barnes is 6’2/180.  The Kingston native turns 18 in April.  He had 9 points so far this season with Blind River.

Also coming from the north is forward Daniel Beaupre.  Trenton sends a Player Development Fee to the Timmins Rock.  The Lions Bay, B.C. native is 18 and has 10 points so far this year.

The GHawks also acquired a Top-6 forward.  Trenton sent a Player Development Fee to the Niagara Falls Canucks (GOJHL) for forward Tanner McEachern.  McEachern was 3rd in the league in assists and tied for 7th in points (37 points in 24 games).  “This is a deal we have been working on for a while.  McEachern was doing great in Junior B, but he also has lots of experience in the O.J.H.L.  He is an OJHL and Dudley Hewitt Champion (Oakville 2019) and an OHL draft pick (4_Flint/2017).  His old coach compares him to Matthew Tkachuk and I think that is a fitting description.  This move will make us a better team.”

The Golden Hawks added a 20-year old on the back end.  “Rajvir Sangha comes to us from the Thunder Bay North Stars (SIJHL).  Rajvir is a point per game D-man with a ton of upside.  He is a right handed shot, 6’0/190, and is a 2016 WHL draft pick.”  He has 21 points to this point in the season.

Austin D’Orazio is coming to Trenton. He just turned 20 and can return next year.  He comes from the Markham Royals in exchange for a Player Development Fee.  The defenceman has 12 points this season.

“With the injury to Ethan Taylor, we needed a second goaltender.  We have signed Andrei Ballack from the Lasalle Vipers (GOJHL).  Ballack knows us well, as he practiced with us during his time with the Frankford Huskies (PJHL).

Coach Goulet added, “We are thrilled to re-acquire Stefan Dobrich from the NAHL’s Corpus Christi IceRays.  He is a big, D-Man, with a heavy shot.  The Amherstberg, ON native was with the GHawks in the 2019-20 and the 2021-21 COVID exhibition play.  This is another big win for us and I know fans will be excited to have him back.”

Dobrich says, “It means a lot to be back in Trenton.  Ever since my first trip to town, I have loved it.  The small town feel, paired with the best fans in the league, make it a perfect fit.  I look forward to throwing that sweater back on and there is nowhere I would rather finish my junior career.

Coach Goulet finished by stating, “The last few days have been a whirlwind.  We are hoping that we will get back on the ice by months end.  If we can get approval for our guys who have moved to the United States, we will be ready to go all the way.”
