SANFORD – The Sanford Mainers announced today that Matt Scalzo has been named Director of Broadcasting & Media for the 2022 season.
“We’re thrilled to have Matt join the Sanford Mainers family,” Chairman of the Board, Jacob Ouellette said. “His dedication and passion for broadcasting and the understanding of the game is something we always seek for this position. We have no doubt Matt will resonate with the Mainers fan base this summer.”
Scalzo, a Ridgefield, Connecticut native, is currently a sophomore at Pennsylvania State University, where he is intending to major in broadcast journalism with a minor in sports studies.
At Penn State, Scalzo is also a part of CommRadio, Penn State’s premier student-run radio station, where he is a play-by-play broadcaster. He has called baseball, football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, soccer and softball. Along with his role as a broadcaster, he is also a Men’s Basketball Insider, where he writes weekly articles, such as features stories, game previews, and game recaps.
“I am honored to be chosen as the voice of the Mainers for the 2022 season,” Scalzo said. “I am excited about the opportunity and I can’t wait to get up to Sanford and begin connecting with the amazing community.”
Scalzo has experience being the voice of a team. This past fall, he was the play-by-play broadcaster for Penn State Women’s Volleyball where he called every home match and a pair of NCAA Tournament matches. He plans to be the voice of women’s volleyball again next season.
Scalzo marks the second Penn State attendee in as many years to hold the Director of Broadcasting & Media title, following 2021 voice, Joe Skinner. For more information on the upcoming Sanford Mainers season, visit sanfordmainers.com.
