QUINTE WEST, ON: Tuesday December 7, 2021:  The Ownership of the Trenton Golden Hawks says a new partner in ownership not only guarantees the team’s future in Quinte West, it strengthens it.

On Tuesday, Rod Finney and Sandy Smith were thrilled to announce a new ownership partner in Shawn Hicks.  Hicks is the C.E.O World Elite Training in Belleville.

Rod Finney says, “This is a great day for the future of the Trenton Golden Hawks, and our commitment to keeping the best team in the OJHL, right here in Quinte West.  Aligning ourselves with World Elite Training does two things.  It activates someone who lives in Bay of Quinte and it unlocks the great potential of World Elite Training.  The Trenton Golden Hawks will be able to utilize this top-notch facility and great trainers, to recruit great new talent every year.  We could not be happier to make this announcement.”

Sandy Smith added, “We have not been actively looking for new partners in ownership.  Rod and I were only interested in meeting with people that could enhance our program.  The Trenton Golden Hawks are known across the league (OJHL) and the Canadian Junior Hockey League, as a program that brings in boys and turns out men.  We are also able to bring great hockey to the best fans in Canada.  Having World Elite at the table with us, makes us better.  The Trenton Golden Hawks are not going anywhere, except even higher in the standings.

“I have seen year after year the great product that is the Trenton Golden Hawks.  They honour our military, they serve in the community, they are respectable young men, and they win.  From the beginning, Sandy Smith and Rod Finney have only had one focus and that is to bring a championship to Trenton.  World Elite’s commitment is to help athletes reach the next level.  World Elite Training and the Trenton Golden Hawks are a perfect match.  I firmly believe that by joining this committed group of owners, coaches, staff, volunteers, players and fans, we can guarantee the future of the Trenton Golden Hawks in Quinte West.  We will also work towards the goal of a national championship,” says Shawn Hicks.

Trenton Golden Hawks Director of Operations John McDonald says, “This is a great day!  This team is here to stay, and our program becomes even stronger.  The City of Quinte West is the most supportive and dedicated municipality we could ever ask to work with.  For the last 8 years, the Golden Hawks have the highest average attendance in our league, and that is a testament to the municipality, and the amazing fans we have in the Quinte region.  Our dedication to the future, right here in Quinte West, makes this new partnership a true winner.  Quinte West is the best, and we are excited to make the Trenton Golden Hawks Junior A Hockey Club that as well.  Go Hawks Go!”
