Syracuse, NY -- The Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has selected Stony Brook University’s Brendan Pepe as the conference’s Player of the Month for October, 2021. The senior defenseman compiled 14 points in 10 games - helping the Seawolves to a near perfect month in the win-loss column.
Pepe led all defenseman in the conference in assists (9), points (14) and is tied with URI’s Jonathan Shaw for the lead in goals (5). He also currently trails teammate, Charles Peck, for the overall conference lead in points by just a single tally. Even more impressive, Pepe tied Sam Turner (Ohio University) and Alec Johnson (University of Nevada-Las Vegas) for the most points recorded by a defenseman in the country in the month of October. The Essex Falls, NJ native is averaging 1.4 points per game – making him the only point-per-game d-man in the conference after the first month of the season. Two of Pepe’s five goals this month were game winners including the GWG against Adrian College on October 15th. This proved to be an especially important win for SBU as Adrian College was ranked number one in the country at the time they squared off with the Seawolves and are the defending ACHA National Champions.
The Stony Brook captain helped his team to an impressive 9-1 record in October including a perfect 6-0 in the conference. Aside from sweeping the aforementioned Adrain College Bulldogs, Stony Brook University also recorded 2-0 weekends against Syracuse University, the University of Rhode Island, and New York University. Stony Brook’s only loss of the season thus far came at the hands of Davenport University.
Pepe currently rides a 4 game point streak which includes a season high 4 point night against the University of Rhode last Sunday, October 23rd. Pepe, along the rest of his teammates at SBU, will travel to Lynchburg, VA this weekend for a 2 game set against the Liberty Flames.
