During the weekend of August 13-15, the Collingwood Blues hosted their annual Identification Camp with 80 prospects travelling to the Eddie Bush Arena for an opportunity to compete for a spot on the 2021-22 Blues roster. After the 3-day camp, only 3 players made the cut and earned on spot in the blue, yellow and white; Forward Jack Piper, Forward Spencer Young & Goalie Samuel Moncada.

Collingwood Blues Head Coach Rob Bentivegna facilitated the Identification Camp. “We had a very successful Identification Camp. The staff were impressed by the consistent pace and intensity of the weekend. The players seemed to get more comfortable as the games progressed which made for an exciting weekend of hockey. There was a great deal of talent on the ice, many of whom will be very effective players in this league in the upcoming years. The Collingwood Blues would like to thank all players and families who participated and helped make our Identification Camp a great experience.”

Centre Jack Piper joins the Blues after spending last season with the GOJHL St. Marys Lincolns. The 17-year-old Schomberg native shared his excitement about joining the team, “I'm very excited to be joining the Blues and playing in Collingwood with such an amazing fanbase. From the start, everything about the Collingwood Blues organization has been professional.  The leadership and coaching that you have here was a big draw for me and I can't wait to get the season started.”

"Jack's game is a perfect fit for the style we want to play. He is equally as dangerous off the rush as he is off the cycle. His compete on the walls combined with his IQ of hitting holes at the right time are what make him stand out amongst his peers. We're glad that Jack chose Collingwood as his destination and we think he will have a positive impact on our club right away", described Coach Rob.

In 2019/20, Spencer Young had 19 points in 33 regular-season games with the Waterloo Wolves U18 AAA. Entering his first season in Junior A Spencer shared his enthusiasm for joining the Blues, “I’m super excited to be coming to Collingwood and joining the Blues. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the city, the organization, and the fans. I can’t wait to get started and experience it all for myself, as well do whatever I can to help bring success and a championship to Collingwood.”

"Spencer is a player that our fans will grow to love very quickly. He has a motor that does not stop and is relentless on the forecheck. We are always looking to add players with speed, skill and high compete levels, so when Spencer got on our radar it was a natural fit for us” expressed Coach Rob.

Goaltender Samuel Moncada joins Collingwood after one season with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs U18.

"Sam is one of the most athletic goalies I have ever seen at this level. His speed, reactions and explosiveness are things that had our staff drawn to him immediately. We are very excited to get Sam in Blues colours and look forward to seeing his progression as a goaltender” said Coach Rob.
