North Adams, MA- For the third time this season the North Adams SteepleCats faced off against the Winnipesaukee Muskrats, and for the 2nd time the Muskrats came out victorious, defeating North Adams 12-6.  The long ball played for both sides as each team hit multiple home runs.  The teams combined for 18 runs on 31 hits. The Muskrats improved to 6-8 while the SteepleCats dropped to 5-6-2.  The SteepleCats played this one without manager Mike Dailey in the dugout, Mason Heyne served as interim manager. 

Noah Niznik got the ball for North Adams, and he went 0.2 innings.  Vin Zappulla (0-1), came on in relief with 2 outs in the 1th, and proceeded to toss 2.2 innings, giving up just 2 earned runs as he took the loss. Nolan Morr and Camden Lovrich also made appearances on what was a tough night for what has been a very solid pitching staff. 

Justin Murray got the win for the Muskrats, going 3.1 in relief of Bryan Pazulski, who gave up 5 runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings.

 

Key Moments

  • The scoring started in the 1st as the Muskrats jumped on Niznik scoring 5 runs on 6 hits.

  • The Cats got on the board in the 3rd, as Hayden Gilliland hit his first home run of the year to trim the deficit to 5-1

  • Charles Middleton tied it up in the 3rd, with a 3 run home run.  The Cats would grab the lead on a Justin Grech RBI single.

  • Leading 8-6 going into the bottom of the 6th the Muskrats opened it up with home runs hit by Cole Johnson and Matt Overton

How it happened 

  • The 6-run 3rd inning was aided by Lucas Donlon reaching on an error.  Following a HBP by Jeremy Lea, Middleton tied the game. 

  • The Muskrats came right back at it in the bottom of the 3rd, regaining the lead on a Kohl Abrams sac-fly.

  • An error by Lea led to another run in the 4th, making it an 8-6 ballgame. 

  • The SteepleCats had their chances to get back in it late, leaving the bases loaded in the final 3 innings.

Next time out: The Cats are back in action tomorrow against the Upper Valley Nighthawks in a Friday double header.  Game one begins at 4:00 at Upper Valley.  Brian Zeldin will be on the mound in game 1.  Kaleb Sophy gets the ball in game 2.
