URI Cancels Remaining Games Due to Covid

Date:  Source: The University of Rhode Island Rams

The team tried its best to have a season but unfortunately there were too many factors to overcome. We are fortunate the team was able to practice while following Covid safety guidelines as other hockey programs across the country were not able to do so.

From the URI Office of Recreational Services:

It is with disappointment to announce that the URI Men's Hockey program will be cancelling all remaining games for the 2020-2021 season. With COVID-19 cases continuing to spike on URI's campus and travel restrictions from both the University and the State of Rhode Island still in place, it became clear that playing games could not be done safely. Additionally, in the short span of a month, our team - along with many other teams at URI - was twice forced to pause all activities due to COVID.  Most of our remaining opponents have also made decisions to cancel their seasons in recent weeks for similar reasons. While the safety of our team and the entire URI community is at the core of this decision, we regret the impact that this will have on our players, some of whom unknowingly played their final college hockey game more than a year ago.

The team will continue to practice under strict safety protocols through the month of March. Barring anything unforeseen, we will return with a full schedule for the 2021-2022 season in September.
