Date:  Source: OJHL Cobourg Cougars

The Cobourg Cougars are pleased to share that alumni Mason Marchment ('13-'14) and Riley Stillman ('14-'15) have made the Florida Panthers roster for the start of the 2020-2021 NHL season.

Mason Marchment

Marchment signed with the Cougars in 2013 after a strong minor hockey career with the Central Ontario Wolves and carried that play into a rookie season which saw Mason tally 22 goals and 21 assists in 51 games, good for 3rd on the Cougars in scoring that year. Mason continued his contributions in the playoffs for the Cougars, and in 11 games added another goal and 5 assists.

Following the 2013-2014 season, Mason signed with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and recorded 26 points in 54 games, continuing a trend of strong rookie seasons. After an off-season trade, Mason split the 2015-2016 season between the Hamilton Bulldogs and Mississauga Steelheads before signing and getting into 3 games with the Toronto Marlies, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the end of the season.

With a successful audition with the Marlies under his belt, Mason spent most of the 2016-2017 season with the Orlando Solar Bears of the East Coast Hockey Leauge (ECHL), before returning to the Marlies for the following two seasons, and earning a 4 game NHL call-up during the 2019-2020 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, in which he recorded his first National Hockey League (NHL) point. That year Mason was traded to the Florida Panthers, and he'll look to make his Panthers debut this season.

Riley Stillman

Riley Stillman signed with the Cougars as an under-age player in 2014, after being selected 63rd overall in the OHL Priority Selection by the Oshawa Generals. As a rookie with the Cougars, Riley led all defencemen on the team in points, with 5 goals and 19 assists in 46 games, and was called up by the Generals for 9 games during that season.

The following season, now a full-time Oshawa General, Riley was made an Alternate Captain as a rookie and posted 21 points in 62 games before being drafted in the 4th round, 114th overall, by the Florida Panthers. After being selected by the Panthers Riley continued his major junior success and was traded during the 2017-2018 season to the Hamilton Bulldogs, with whom he would win an OHL Championship that season and earn a trip to the Memorial Cup playoffs in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Stillman made the jump to pro-hockey during the 2018-2019 season, playing 59 games for the Springfield Thunderbirds, Florida's AHL affiliate, recording 17 points, and earning a callup to play his first NHL game with the Panthers on February 26th vs the Arizona Coyotes. Last season, Riley split time between Springfield and Florida, dressing in 25 games with the Thunderbirds and in 34 games with the Panthers, recording 5 assists at the NHL-level.

The Cougars are very proud to call each player an alumni of our program and we look forward to cheering them on as they continue their professional hockey careers. We wish Riley and Mason the best of luck with the Florida Panthers this season!
