CSCHC CANCELS WINTER SEASON

(TRENTON, NJ - December 1, 2020) - The Colonial States College Hockey Conference (CSCHC) has decided to cancel it’s Winter 2020-21 season. This decision was agreed upon by commissioner John Bullis and the CSCHC Executive Board alongside member representatives.

This decision to cancel does not come lightly but out of necessity as SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection levels rise around the country. The Colonial affirms the belief that the safety of our member schools and their teams comes first. Additional factors that influenced this decision include school decisions to forgo winter sports, both varsity and club, and state imposed travel restrictions on non-essential movement.

These thoughts are echoed by Commissioner Bullis:

“These unprecedented times have been difficult for so many, including the coaches and players of the CSCHC. Whether we are conducting disciplinary actions or making decisions to cancel our season due to a pandemic, we are doing so with the safety of our athletes in mind. It is with a heavy heart that we elected to cancel the 2020-2021 season.

“At this level, we do not have the capabilities that the NFL, NBA or Power Five NCAA Division I schools have to allow our athletes to compete. Aside from protocols varying between schools, programs and state lines, each rink facility has its own procedures and protocols pertaining to their available amenities.”

The American Collegiate Hockey Conference (ACHA) has already announced modifications to its Division II format as more conferences evaluate future actions.

If circumstances allow it, the Colonial is exploring options to host some form of competition in Spring 2021, depending on state and school decisions on indoor sports as well as the status of the COVID-19 virus. Any updates will be posted to the conference website as well as its social media accounts.

The CSCHC, a member of the ACHA Division II Southeast Region, and it’s eleven member schools wish to thank all players, team staff, and fans for their support during this difficult time.

Additionally, Commissioner Bullis wishes to thank the senior players from each program for their years of representing the CSCHC with both commitment and honor.

“We would like to thank our Seniors for their dedication to their respective teams and lastly, our league. Thank you for commitment and upstanding performance that makes our league one of the top ACHA leagues in the country.”
