2022 Season Previews: Waynesboro
Date: May 13, 2022
The National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) member leagues had a conference call today and each league shared an update regarding the status of their 2020 summer season. In that call, each league discussed the different ways states in their region are addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cape Cod Baseball League decided today to cancel their 2020 season due to the impact of this virus. The Valley Baseball League previously made the necessary decision on April 2nd to cancel their 2020 season. Both decisions were made with safety as a priority and with respect to local stay at home orders. We are saddened that these two leagues with such rich history have been forced by COVID-19 to cancel their season, but the NACSB supports them in their decision.
Currently, stay at home orders continue to vary widely across the footprint of our alliance. The remaining 10 leagues in the NACSB are continuing discussions about their next steps. Some of these leagues have already pushed expected start dates later, and others are likely to do the same. Each of these leagues will continue to make decisions that are based on factors specific to their region and individual league operations, with safety as a priority.
The NACSB will continue providing updates as new information becomes available.
The NACSB is an alliance of non-profit summer collegiate baseball leagues that are each partially funded by Major League Baseball. Members of the NACSB provide a platform for elite college baseball players to compete at a high level. Players are bound by NCAA eligibility and are sent to each member league by their college coach.
