The word “change” comes to mind when describing the Burford Bulldogs heading into the 2020-21 season. This word could also describe the change coming for Bulldogs veteran goaltender, Eric Chant, who officially ended his junior hockey career this past season.

The Burford-born goaltender stretched his junior hockey career from 2017 to 2020. Over the course of his tenure with his hometown hockey club, Chant tallied 1,179 saves in 33 season games-played and finished with a 0.843 save-percentage. During the post-season, Eric posted 145 saves in 3 games-played, finishing with a 0.853 save-percentage.

A highlight of his career, number 33 would tie a PJHL/MWJCHL record for most saves recorded in a game with 73 against the Wellesley Applejacks on Sunday, January 13, 2019. What’s interesting about this particular statistic is the fact that Chant went on to tie a former Bulldogs goalie, Curtis D’Ortenzio, who posted the same save total against the Woodstock Navy Vets in November of 2017. A year earlier, Chant would himself in the record books via a post-season game against the Ayr Centennials. On Saturday, February 3, 2018, Chant stymied the Cens with 80 saves on 87 shots - a PJHL playoffs record.

The entire Bulldogs Hockey Club would like to thank Eric for his time with the club and would like to wish him the very best of luck in all life (and hockey) endeavours.
