The University of Calgary Dinos, coming off a 6th place finish in the 2019 CCBC regular season will be looking to make waves in their 2020 campaign with a pitching staff headlined by veteran starting pitchers.

     Jordan Smith ( RHP/DH, Calgary AB, 5th yr.) and Owen Steele (RHP, Calgary AB, 5th yr.) will be looking to lead the way for the Dinos pitching staff in 2020. Smith, in his 6 starts last year with the Dinos threw for 35.2 innings and posted a 3.03 ERA with 31 strikeouts to go along with his 2-3 record. Owen Steele who pitched in 5 games for the Dinos in 2019 will also be looking to make an impact this year on the mound. Last year saw Steele in 13 innings in which he struck out 13 with a 3.46 ERA. 3rd year pitcher Sam Poole (Calgary AB) coming off a strong summer season will also take on innings this year for the Dinos.

 Hitting wise, the Dinos will rely on depth and experience from returners such as Matt Korman (C/OF, Calgary AB 3rd yr.) Mike Ozga (1B, Red Deer AB, 5th yr.) and Jake Hesselenk (OF, Regina SK, 4th yr.). In 2019 Matt Korman lead all Dino hitters with a .290 AVG, .766 OPS, 27 hits, 13 RBI to go along with 3 triples and 1 homerun. Chris Cook, entering his 3rd year is looking to build upon a solid 2019 season in which he hit .281 AVG, .749 OPS with 25 hits, 16 RBI, 11 walks with 2 homeruns.

 The top Freshman for the Dinos in 2020 feature Darnell Wyke (OF, Winnipeg MB), Ryan Herman (RHP, Calgary AB) and Nathan Damiani (INF, Red Deer AB). Herman in his 2019 season with the AAA Giants in the Babe Ruth Calgary Baseball League threw for 21.2 innings, recorded 28 strikeouts with a 3.23 ERA.

 The Dinos so far in their 2020 pre-season have managed to pick up wins against the Douglas College Royals and the Langley Blaze. Notable performances from Brendan Makay who threw for 6 innings pitched allowing 1 earned run versus Douglas College and Ryan Herman who recorded a save versus Langley in their 4-3 victory.

 Last summer, was the first year of the University of Calgary Dinos Summer Collegiate team. With a combination of American and Canadian collegiate ball players, the Dinos were very successful in their inaugural season. The team managed to finish first place in the regular season in the Calgary FMBA Mens league, made the money round at the Kamloops International tournament, and received an invite to the Grand Forks tournament this upcoming summer.
