Weekend Recap: Vipers Split Busy Week

Date:  Source: GOJHL LaSalle Vipers

Faced with a challenging schedule of four games in six days, three of which were on the road, the LaSalle Vipers came away with a 2-2 record. The team began the week with a win over Strathroy on Wednesday, fell in St. Marys on Friday, defeated the Kings in Komoka on Saturday, and then were upended by the London Nationals on Monday afternoon.

A tightly-contested game throughout that was scoreless heading into the third period. Spencer Paradis scored the lone Vipers goal in the game to tie it at 1-1 mid way through the period, but the Lincolns responded two minutes later with the eventual game-winner and then put it away with an empty-netter in the final minute.

Vipers offense exploded in a big way starting with three goals in a five-minute span in the first period. Two more in the second and three in the third resulted in the lopsided win in what was a pretty wild game in terms of goals and extra-curriculars. It was a big night for defenseman Abdul Abouzeeni who became the all-time leader in LaSalle Vipers history in career points by a defenseman, as well as becoming just the second defenseman in franchise history to top 50 points in a season. Jack Bowler and Aaron Shaw each had two goals in the game, and Spencer Paradis continued his outstanding play by scoring his 20th goal of the season.

Missing a few key players, the Vipers were in tough against the first-place London Nationals. Despite the 5-2 defeat, the team played well overall and took some of positives away from the game. After a strong first period, they were done in by a one-minute lapse early in the second where the Nationals scored three times. Cayden Faust brought it to 3-1 with a nice shorthanded tally, but London responded with two more before the middle frame ended to put the game away.
