Tech hockey powers past UM-Dearborn

The No. 8-ranked Indiana Tech men’s  hockey team defeated No. 6-ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn, 5-2, Saturday in WHAC action at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena in Dearborn, Michigan.

Five different Warriors, Mike Tish, Joel Holmberg, Danniel Spannar, Cameron Wirick and Ryan Attwood, scored in the win while Tish and Attwood both grabbed an assist. Cole Barney dished out two assists while Ryan O’Toole made a career-high 46 saves in the win.

Tech scored three power play goals to hold a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes. Attwood netted the first goal of the game at the 3:18 mark while Holmberg made it 2-0 at 11:42 for his 20th goal of the season. After surrendering a short-handed goal, Wirick restored the two-goal advantage with a goal at 13:39.

Tish made it a 4-1 game just 95 seconds into the second period while Spannar answered the Wolverines second goal of the night just a minute later at 13:25 in the third to conclude the scoring and help the Warriors salvage the split and keep pace in the WHAC standings with UM-Dearborn, as both teams have 22 points and sit in a tie for first.

Tech (17-6-0, 11-3-0 WHAC) returns to action at 8:15 p.m. Friday as it travels to Lawrence Tech for a WHAC matchup from Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
