Iowa took on McKendree at home over the weekend, winning both games for a weekend sweep.

11/15: On Friday the Hawks beat McKendree 9-3.

In the first period, the Hawkeyes took a commanding 4-0 lead. The first goal game about halfway through the first period and was scored by Jake Carlson. Zach Knudson and Ryan Carlson picked up the assists. 30 seconds later Iowa stuck again with a goal from Jake Vennetti, assisted by Nathan Springberg and Devin Decker. A little over a minute later Kevin Horan scored a shorthanded goal for Iowa; Zach Lupori picked up the assist. Ryan Carlson scored a shorthanded goal late in the period to give Iowa a 4-0 lead heading into intermission. Mike Viola and Matt Wilson picked up the assists on the goal.

In the second period, Iowa picked up where they left off with a quick goal from Kevin Horan, assisted by Nathan Springberg. McKendree got on the board to make it a 5-1 game early in the second period. A few minutes later Kevin Horan completed his hattrick to give Iowa a 6-1 lead. Jake Vennetti picked up the assist on the goal. A little over halfway through the second Kevin Horan scored his fourth goal of the night and third consecutive goal for Iowa, to make it a 7-1 lead. Jake Venetti and Billy Jeffers had the assists. Iowa capped off their scoring in the second period with a goal from Jake Carlson, assisted by Ryan Carlson. Iowa held an 8-1 lead at the end of the second period.

In the third period, Iowa scored another quick goal to make it a 9-1 lead. The goal was scored by Matt Wilson with assists going to Devin Decker and Spencer Lhotka. McKendree would go on to score two more times to make the final score of the game 9-3. Iowa’s Kevin Horan finished the game with 4 goals.

11/16: On Saturday, Iowa beat McKendree 7-5 to complete the sweep.

In the first period, Iowa scored four consecutive goals. The first goal came from Brody Brenczewski with Ethan Darby picking up the assist. The next goal came from Ethan Darby, unassisted. Iowa’s third goal of the game was scored by Nathan Springberg, assisted by Kevin Horan and Jake Vennetti. Iowa’s fourth goal of the period was scored by Jake Carlson, assisted by Zach Lupori. McKendree scored late in the first period to make it a 4-1 game after 20 minutes of play.

In the second period, Iowa struck first with a powerplay goal from Ryan Carlson with Zach Lupori getting credit for the assist. Kevin Horan’s stick stayed hot, scoring his fifth goal of the weekend to give Iowa a 6-1 lead. Mike Viola picked up the assist on Horan’s goal. Iowa scored again with a goal from Zach Lupori, assisted by Ryan Carlson, to increase their lead to 6. McKendree scored late in the second to make it a 7-2 game.

In the third period, Iowa held on as McKendree scored 3 goals. The final score of the game was 7-5 Iowa. Kevin Horan finished the weekend with 5 goals and 1 assist for a total of 6 points on the weekend.
