A number of players had career games last weekend in the Colonial States College Hockey Conference. The University of Pennsylvania's Brett Rahbany scored five goals and assisted on two more against West Chester University and New Jersey Institute of Technology forward Michael Caufield scored six goals against Princeton in his team’s best showing so far this season.
The College of New Jersey also had a game against Rowan University of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association in a rematch of last year’s ACHA Southeast Regional. While TCNJ won that game, it could not hold two separate leads over the Profs and fell it a game that will cost the team in the upcoming ACHA rankings.
Speaking of, Millersville University was the lone CSCHC team ranked in the first ACHA Southeast rankings last week coming in at 13th. In the second rankings, published on Thursday, Nov. 14, four more schools entered the rankings.
The rest of the Colonial members will enter the rankings officially over-time. Here’s how some of these teams got their rankings:
Friday, November 8
Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs Scranton Royals (8-5)
One of the craziest second periods across the entire ACHA saw nine total goals scored as Rutgers University upset Colonial Conference leading University of Scranton, 8-5, at home.
The biggest star of the night was the Knight’s Anthony Margiotta, who scored twice in the span of a minute late in the second period while also assisting on two more goals. His teammate Connor Zrinko was not far behind with two goals and an assist scattered between the first two periods.
“Rutgers is a solid team,” Scranton head coach Stephan Fusco said afterwards. “They come at you with high intensity. They prepared well for us, nice job by coaching staff. We struggled all night, did not play with the same intensity as Rutgers, nor did we play smart.”
Midway through the first period, Rutgers and Scranton matched each other with goals separated by only 79 seconds. Margiotta got his first point of the night when he assisted Timothy Bizub’s opening score just over 10 minutes in before Royal Kieran Gruby finished off a Peter Cassidy to level the game back up.
Despite Zrinko and Kevin Mccoy combining to assist Paul Stryker on a goal before intermission, the Royals had been in this situation before. In recent weeks slow starts had been the norm for the Royals while goaltending and surging offenses pulled the team out as time wore on. However, for both Dylan Euvino and Stephen Brennan in net the combined 32 shots faced were too many.
Six of the nine goals in the second period belonged to the home team. Zrinko and Margiotta both scored their goals during the twenty minutes while Branden Kushnir and Kyle Smith also lit up the lamp to put their team over the edge. Despite Scranton goals breaking up the flow, with Kieran Regen scoring twice and John Forlenza Ii getting one himself, the team struggled to get more shots past Steven Gibilisco who stopped 28 shots all night.
A penalty heavy third period saw one goal for Scranton, scored by Kieran Gruby and assisted by John Foster, as the team fell for the first time in regulation this year.

NJIT Highlanders vs Princeton Tigers (9-6)
The second competitive, high scoring game of the weekend saw New Jersey Institute of Technology host Princeton University on Sunday night. Multiple lead changes over 60 minutes and 15 total goals ended with NJIT picking up its second CSCHC win and move to eighth place in the Colonial standings.
Four or more goals were scored in each of the three game periods but NJIT always went into the locker room with the lead. The Tigers’ Benjamin Crewe only faced 31 shots all game but was only able to stop 22 of them. The team around him however, plagued by injuries and new faces, still nearly matched its season high of seven goals in a losing effort.
The Highlanders’ Michael Caufield scored an incredible six of his team's goals during the game, jumping him into the upper echelon for top conference goal scorers. The other three were scored by Jeffrey Patterson, Matthew Sendecki, and Ted Lee in the first, second, and third periods respectively.
Many of the goals came in quick succession for both teams. Princeton’s Teague Tomesh and Nicholas Cefalu evened the score and took the lead in the first period within one minute of each-other, with Cefalu and Maximilian Garlock assisting on the goals. Then, with just over 90 seconds to play in the first period, Caufield and Patterson combined for three goals to give the home team a two goal advantage.
The rest of the Tiger goals came from Alexander Ban, Garlock, and two from Mason Wasserman including a final push with under two minutes to go in the game which cut the deficit to two goals before Caufield scored an empty netter.
