Training Camp Halifax Recap

Date:  Source: NLL: New England Black Wolves

Week two of training camp is officially in the books. The Black Wolves spent Saturday and Sunday in Halifax, competing against the home club on Saturday in a scrimmage. Below are some key takeaways from General Manager Rich Lisk:

1.       After week one of training camp in Connecticut where teaching was the first order of business, week two was the first opportunity that Head Coach Glenn Clark had to begin implementing his system. Clark and his staff spent time detailing concepts and then allowing the team to execute on the field in live action.
2.       On Saturday, New England fell in a scrimmage to Halifax, but only trailed by one goal at the half. With key members of the core group missing from week two camp - Callum Crawford, Brett Manney, Stephen LeBlanc, Nick Chaykowsky and Greg Downing, Doug Jamieson – lots of new, young players had an opportunity to earn a roster spot and playing time. In addition, the coaching staff could begin thinking about how newcomers will mesh with returners.
3.       Quick turnarounds are essential for growth. After a 10-goal loss Saturday night, the team got back to work on the field Sunday morning. Lisk said, “I was so impressed by how well this team responded the next day. It was an upbeat practice with hard work. I could see the camaraderie forming. This weekend was a microcosm of the season, highs and lows – we are just learning how to ride those waves.”

Week three of training camp gets underway on Friday, Nov. 15 in Philadelphia. A full roster will be on hand for a scrimmage on Saturday vs. the Wings and practice on Sunday.

3 Players to Watch -
1.       Jordan Durston (Forward), “This is the first time we saw Jordan in a game situation with us, rather than against us. He is able to do things on the field that that the common eye or common fan wouldn’t pick up on. He makes other players around him better.”
2.       Joe Nardella (Defense),  “This weekend gave Joe the chance to take face-offs against Jake Withers, who is one of the best in the league. It was great preparation for what we will expect of him during the season.”
3.       Dave Emala (Forward), “What impressed me about Davey was his maturation. Being a second year guy, you can see the confidence he is returning with. You can see that he wants to take on more of a leadership role. He is going to blossom this year.”
