Cambridge, Ont. – National Hockey League Central Scouting released its 'Players to Watch List' for the 2019-20 season earlier this week and three Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) skaters were among those named to the initial listing.

The 'Players to Watch List' is released annually by NHL Central Scouting and is made up of top hockey prospects from each of the major development leagues in Europe and North America.

Thirteen skaters from leagues across the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) made the first installment of the list. OJHLers making the first installment of the 'Players to Watch List' include Ryan Alexander of the St. Michael's Buzzers, Brendan Kennette of the Burlington Cougars and Toronto Jr. Canadiens centre Ryan Tverberg. Each of Alexander, Kennette and Tverberg received "C" ratings which indicate that they could potentially be selected in the later rounds (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) of the NHL Draft in June, 2020.

Ryan Alexander is a 17-year-old centreman from Toronto, Ont. and is in his third season with the OJHL's St. Michael's Buzzers. Alexander played two games with the Buzzers in his Midget AAA season in 2017-18 and played a full season with St. Mike's the following season in which he scored 16 goals and 45 points as a 16-year-old. The 5'10", 181 pound centre is second on the Buzzers in points this season with six goals and 18 points in 13 games. Alexander has also committed to play for Arizona State University in 2020-21.

Brendan Kennette plays defence for the OJHL West Division's Burlington Cougars. This is Kennette's first season in the OJHL and he previously played Junior B in the Ontario Hockey Association's Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). Kennette, 17, is from Belle River, Ont. and suited up for 46 games with the Sarnia Legionnaires in 2018-19 and scored five goals and 22 points. The 6'1", 190 pound defenceman has played 10 games with the Cougars this season and has recorded one goal and seven points.

Ryan Tverberg of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens also made the list and is playing in his second OJHL season. Tverberg debuted in the OJHL in 2018-19 with the Jr. Canadiens, where he played nine games. Through 10 games this season, Tverberg's seven goals and 13 points leads the Jr. Canadiens in scoring. The 5'11", 170 pound forward is from Richmond Hill, Ont.

The top-rated player among CJHL clubs is Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL) left winger Carter Savoie, who was tabbed with a ‘B’ rating, which indicates him as a potential second or third round draft selection candidate.

The 2020 NHL Draft will be held June 26-27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Que.
