New York, NY – NYU Hockey Head Coach Chris Cosentino announced today that Sean Escobedo will join Spencer Varney and Bryan Hogan on the staff this fall as an Assistant Coach. Escobedo comes to NYU after serving as Associate Head Coach of the North Jersey Avalanche U15 team last season. Sean led the Avalanche to an impressive 59-18-2 record, AYHL Championship and USA Hockey National Tournament appearance. Sean also was named to the 2018-2019 AYHL All-Star game coaching staff.
“Sean brings a wealth of knowledge to our team and I am excited to have him work with our players,” said NYU Hockey Head Coach Chris Cosentino. “It is an improvement any time you can bring in someone who played the game at a high level and has a sincere passion for coaching – but most of all Sean has a special personality that will be a great addition to our program.”
Sean Escobedo played four seasons of NCAA Division I hockey as a defenseman for Boston University under legendary coach Jack Parker where he played in 154 games. Sean was recruited to play for BU by current New York Rangers Head Coach David Quinn who was serving as an assistant coach for the Terriers at the time.
“I am honored and excited to be joining the NYU Hockey program and my former Coach Cosentino,” said Escobedo. “Looking forward to working with this talented group of guys coming back and the incoming freshman class. This was a unique opportunity to give back to the game, while helping develop and teach players at the collegiate level.”
Prior to BU, Sean spent one season in the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede and Tri-City Storm. Before being drafted #3 overall in the 2008 USHL Draft, Sean was a member of the NY Apple Core where he played for Coach Cosentino.
After his collegiate career, Sean played 229 professional games in the AHL, ECHL and in Hungary. Sean currently works and lives in New York City.
