The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) is seeking a candidate to fill the Programs and Communications Intern position at its head office in Ottawa for the Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 terms. Please note that this position is only open to students who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and required to complete an internship as part of their studies.

 

 

ABOUT THE CANADIAN LACROSSE ASSOCIATION

 

Founded in 1867, the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) is the governing body responsible for all aspects of lacrosse in Canada. Our organization is comprised of 10 Member Associations representing nearly 85,000 individual participants, including coaches, officials, and athletes of all ages and abilities. The CLA's mission is to honour the sport of lacrosse and its unique nation-building heritage, by engaging our members, leading our partners, and providing opportunities for all Canadians to participate. The CLA oversees the delivery of numerous national championships and the participation of Team Canada at all international events sanctioned by the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL). 

 

PURPOSE

The Programs and Communications Intern is responsible for providing administrative support to the CLA office. They will work closely with all CLA staff members and be exposed to all areas of a National Sport Organization (NSO). The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work in a variety of program areas including administration, coaching, officiating, marketing, and communications.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration

     o Assist in the preparation of CLA Meetings

     o Help process player transfer requests and update negotiation lists

     o Organize and track inventory of manuals, merchandise, and promotional items

     o Complete administrative duties such as shipping and answering email/phone inquiries

 

National Championships

     o Assist in the ordering of event equipment and preparation of host packages

     o Compile information and recommendations from post-even reports and surveys

     o Organize historic information and paperwork from past tournaments

     o Help ensure accuracy of tournament statistics and update tracking documents

 

Coaching and Officiating

     o Assist in the administration of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for  

        lacrosse   

     o Help update coaching/officiating resources such as rulebooks, workbooks and training

        manuals

     o Provide customer service via phone and email to coaches and referees

 

 

 

 

Marketing and Communications

     o Assist in the creation of content for the CLA website and social media channels

     o Compile information and propose ideas for stories on various lacrosse topics 

     o Help execute social media campaigns and contests

     o Assist in the creation of a various communications plans and content calendars

     o Collect sponsorship and marketing data from industry competitors

     o Help build and maintain the CLA's media distribution list 

     o Organize photo and video content and assist in the archiving process

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

• Intermediate knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)

• Familiarity with photo and video editing software is considered an asset 

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Experience in lacrosse is considered an asset

• Bilingualism is considered an asset

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

• Able to work some weekends, mainly during meetings or events

• Occasional travel within Canada to attend meetings or events

 

JOB TYPE:

Internship, Full-Time

 

TERM:

Fall: October to December

Winter: January to April 

 

HOURS OF WORK:

Ideally 4-5 days per week in the office. The CLA will work with the student to make sure that they complete the minimum number of hours required by their educational institution.

 

COMPENSATION:

This is position has a $500 per term honourarium based on performance. The selected candidate may also have the opportunity to attend CLA events and meetings, which could include committee meetings, annual meetings, conferences, workshops, World Championships etc.
