MINOR BANTAM ASSISTANT COACHES PRESS RELEASE

MATT SHAHEN

This will be Matt’s 5th season coaching and his first with the Myers Automotive AAA association. Matt has previously coached various age groups at the AA level with the Nepean Raiders (Major Peewee – Minor Midget) and has spent one year with the Upper Canada Cyclones (Minor Bantam). 

Matt is an Ottawa native who grew up playing for the Nepean Raiders Minor Hockey Association and played Junior hockey in the CCHL2 for the Prescott Flyers. We are excited to welcome Matt to our Minor Bantam coaching staff for the 2019 – 2020 season.

JESSE HANES

Jesse is an athlete, a communicator and an educator who has been coaching sports since 2009. Originally from Ottawa, Jesse has spent most of the last decade on the east coast.  

During that time, Jesse has been a dual-sport varsity athlete (rugby and baseball), earned a B.Sc Kinesiology from Dalhousie University and a B. Ed. from St. Francis Xavier. Outside of the classroom, he coached a variety of high school sports including hockey, soccer and basketball, as well as being a CanSkate instructor. 

Jesse began his professional career as the Athletic Therapist for the Dalhousie Varsity Women’s hockey team, followed by two years as a kinesiologist. After earning his B. Ed., Jesse spent two years as a high school teacher in New Brunswick and has recently returned to Ottawa to accept a position as a special education teacher for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
