Newport – Newport scored the final six runs of the game as Danbury’s pitching struggled once again in a 10-3 over the Gulls in Rhode Island on Monday evening.

After an emotionally charged 12-11 win over Ocean State just 24 hours prior, the Westerners kept the hot streak at the plate alive, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning thanks to RBIs from Noah Dickerson and Sonny Uliana.

In the bottom half of the first, starting pitcher Eli Oliphant got roughed up, allowing four runs, three of which came from a three-run home run by Justyn-Henry Malloy. Danbury would rally back in the top of the second, pushing across one run on an RBI single by Justin Jordan to find themselves trailing 4-3 after an inning and a half.

From there, the Danbury pitching struggled, giving up six runs over the course of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to fall into a hole they could not climb out of. The loss was charged to Oliphant, who allowed four runs in just an inning on the mound. The loss snaps the Westerners’ six-game winning streak. They look to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday when they return home to face off against the Mystic Schooners.
