Waterloo Siskins #18 Sam SPAEDT waited until after the game #7 Sutherland Cup win over the London Nationals to come up with the criteria to decide where he’d be taking his 5’ 8” frame next season. Adrian won the college lottery selection as Sam had 7-8 serious offers for next season.

“We are thrilled to have Sam in a Bulldogs jersey this fall” commented Adrian’s Coach Gary Astalos. “While he is very skilled he also has great vision and a high compete level. We know we are getting a great hockey player and a great person in Sam and look forward to having him be part of our program.”  

Sam played high school hockey in Saginaw Michigan before playing two seasons for the Waterloo Siskins.  Sam was also recognized at the 2018-2019 Waterloo Siskins Annual Award Banquet as the season’s “Unsung Hero” and a hero he was.

“You can’t let Sam’s size fool you” stated Waterloo Siskins Director of Hockey Operations, Curtis Clairmont. “It’s not just his speed, it’s not just his hockey sense and it’s not just his character that makes Sam the biggest player on the ice when the chips are down-it’s the combination of ALL OF THOSE THINGS” accentuated Clairmont.

The statistics don’t lie.

Sam SPAEDT led the Waterloo Siskins with 9 goals in the 2017-2018 playoffs taking Waterloo to within minutes of upsetting the Listowel Cyclones in game #7 of the Cherry Cup semi-finals (Listowel went on to win the Sutherland Cup). Sam improved on this clutch performance in the 2018-2019 playoffs recording 31 points in 30 playoff games including the OT game winner in game #2 of the Sutherland Cup finals and the tying goal with 4 minutes left in game #7 of the Sutherland Cup finals.   

“We all wish Sam the best and will be watching his career with great interest as we do with all the Siskins graduates before him. It’s why we put so much effort into the team- it’s for players like Sam. We will miss him”, stated Clairmont.
