Thank you, Huskies! Senior Weekend Recap

The UW Huskies kicked off the final homestand of the 2018-19 season on February 1st against Gonzaga. The home team kicked off the scoring when Senior Christian Cinderella found a great rebound from Sophomore Connor Nehls. Nehls put up the second goal of the period to end the first 20 minutes of regulation at 2-0.

Gonzaga and UW stayed out of the penalty box for the entirety of the first period, which kept up the tempo of the offense up to start the game.

Big defenseman Ryan Jaromin’s ability to get to the net and square up plays will be sorely missed as he is one of the graduating seniors. No scoring in the second period of Friday’s tilt; Sophomore goalie Evan Reeve shining in goal all night.

Three of our big seniors touched the puck on the first goal of the third. Cinderella dished the puck home, assisted by captain Mason Friedman and Jaromin. UW killed a penalty for hooking at a time when Gonzaga was poised to get on the board. Cinderella closed out the game with a big goal on the power-play. Friday ended with a 5-0 shutout.

The Purple and Gold took the ice for the last time on Saturday, February 2nd. Outgoing Seniors honored on the ice pre-game in front friends and family reflecting on a wild, fun season.

The starting lines showcased all seniors; generating the loudest stick-taps and roars from the crowd we’ve heard recently at Olympicview Arena. Mason Friedman put UW on the board first when he rushed the net to get the puck past Gonzaga goalie Tristen Seyer.

UW kept Gonzaga at bay after scoring two quick goals at the beginning of the second period. The high-flying senior line of Friedman, Cinderella and Jaromin closed the period with the Huskies 4th goal of the night.

The University of Washington slammed the door on home ice with a final score of 6-2. Senior goalie Debbie Chen played just over 30 minutes in net and stopped all 13 shots she faced.

After this game, The Huskies traveled down to Lake Tahoe to compete in the PAC-8 tournament Quarterfinal.

“This weekend was a wonderful celebration of our senior class, as well as nice 2-win homestand. Congrats to Evan Reeve on his first win and shutout, as well as the rest of the seniors for having great finishes to their careers. The team is ready to travel down to Lake Tahoe and play Cal on Friday [February 8th] to try and make a playoff run, and it’ll be an exciting one for sure.” - Christian Cinderella
