A Weekend vs. WPU


Villanova played William Paterson University twice this past weekend in a home and home series of league games.

Saturday’s game was at home for the IceCats, and they scored the first goal of the game just 3 minutes into game play, thanks to Timothy Arena. About 7 minutes into the period, William Paterson made it on the scoreboard with a goal. With about 5 minutes left in the first, Timothy Arena scored another goal for Villanova.

 

William Paterson dominated most of the scoring in the second. Within the first 12 minutes of the period, they scored 3 goals. Before the end of the period, Joey Duffy scored Villanova’s only goal of the period.

 

About two minutes into the third period, William Paterson scored another goal. Villanova was unable to catch William Paterson’s lead, and there was no more scoring in the third. The final score of the game was a 5-3 loss for Villanova.

 

Shots on goal were 24 for Villanova and 43 for William Paterson. John Persichilli goaltended the game for Villanova.

 

In an away game Sunday night, the two teams played each other once again in another close game. Villanova began the scoring in the first with a goal by Timothy Arena less than two minutes into game play. About halfway through the period, William Paterson scored a goal.

 

There was no scoring in the second period. Villanova gained a lead during the third period with a goal by Christopher Parisi. Before the end of the game, William Paterson scored two more goals, locking down a win. The final score was 3-2.

 

Shots on goal were 27 for Villanova and 55 for William Paterson. Ajay Fernandez was in goal for the IceCats.

 

Next weekend, the boys will be playing in the Villanova College Showcase at Hatfield Ice. They will play Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Niagara University and Saturday at 5:50 p.m. against Canisius University. Come cheer them on!
