Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend

Villanova brought home a win against Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday night at home, and then hosted a breast cancer awareness game against the University of Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.

 

Friday night’s game began with a 2 goals in the first period by Villanova’s Joey Duffy and Richie Halevy.

 

The second period went back and forth with a lot of scoring. RIT opened the period with a goal. Villanova responded by scoring 2 more goals, thanks to Eddie Klein and Tim Matthews. RIT scored again, and then George Clark scored a goal for Villanova.

 

Both teams scored one goal in the third period. RIT scored first, and then Villanova. Villanova’s goal was scored by Christopher Parisi.

 

The final score of the game was a 6-3 win for Villanova. Villanova put up 52 shots on goal, and RIT 37. Villanova’s John Persichilli goaltended the game.

 

On Sunday afternoon, the IceCats dressed in special pink jerseys for their Breast Cancer Awareness game against Arkansas. Janice Navo, a breast cancer survivor, shared her story and participated in a ceremonial puck drop.

 

The first period of the game saw the most action. Arkansas scored about 3 minutes into the game. Halfway through the period, Tim Matthews buried a goal for Villanova. Before the end of the period, Arkansas scored another goal.

 

There was only one goal scored in the second period. Tim Matthews scored Villanova’s second goal and tied up the game. Most of the third period was scoreless, until Arkansas scored the last goal of the game with just 5 minutes left. The final score of the game was a 3-2 loss for Villanova. The shots on goal were 37 for Villanova and 44 for Arkansas. Ajay Fernandez was in net for Villanova.

 

Next week, the IceCats will be on fall break. Their season will continue the following weekend as they take on Penn State Berks at Body Zone on Sat., October 27 at 5 p.m. and Drexel University at Hatfield Ice on Sun., October 28 at 4:30 p.m. Let’s go IceCats!!
