City 6 Showdown

Villanova’s home rink, Hatfield Ice, hosted the City 6 Showcase this past weekend. Teams that participated in the event were Villanova, Penn, St. Jose, Temple, Drexel, and La Salle.

 

On Saturday night, Villanova played their first game of the showcase against Temple University. Villanova dominated the first period, scoring the first two goals by Timothy Blajda and Timothy Arena. Just 4 seconds left in the period, Temple buried a goal.

 

There was no scoring in the second period. The third period began with a goal by Temple, tying the game up. Joey Duffy regained a lead for Villanova with a goal about halfway through the period. Temple scored another goal in the third, tying the game once again and eventually pushing an overtime.

 

One minute into a 3-3 OT period, George Clark buried a goal and brought home a win for the IceCats! Villanova had a total of 49 shots on goal and Temple had 41. Ajay Fernandez was in net for Villanova.

 

On Sunday afternoon, Villanova faced Drexel University. Drexel scored two goals during the first half of the first period. With 10 seconds left in the period, Villanova made it on the scoreboard with a goal by Richie Halevy.

 

Both teams scored one goal in the second period. Drexel scored first about 5 minutes in, and Villanova scored about 8 minutes in, thanks again to Richie Halevy.

 

Villanova’s captain, David Troiano, scored first in the third period, tying the game 3-3. With just 2 minutes left in game play, Drexel scored another goal, taking the lead. Drexel followed up with an empty net goal, finishing the game at a 5-3 loss for Villanova.

 

Villanova outshot Drexel 34-29. John Persichilli was in net for Villanova.

 

Next weekend, the IceCats will be travelling to play New York University on Friday at 9 p.m. at Chelsea East. They will then host Towson University on Saturday at 7:40 p.m. at Hatfield Ice. Come cheer them on!
