PART 2 Pearson wants to finish Jr. career in Owen Sound
Date: May 15, 2020
Komoka Kings extend their current win streak to 3 as they defeat the Chatham Maroons 4-1 at the Komoka Wellness Centre on Saturday night.
The Kings again started strong peppering seven shots on the Chatham net before the Maroons had one on Kings' Say. The Chatham netminder stood his ground as the Kings continued to press hard and at 10:17 of the first period Blake McConnell-Barker put one in the Chatham net, his 9th of the season and assisted by Dowson Zheng and Jacob Rochford. After the Kings first goal dozen and dozens of stuffed toys flooded the ice as it was the Komoka Kings second annual teddy bear toss night in support of Ronald McDonald House and the London Children's Centre (145 in total). Maroons soon found new life and put pressure on the Komoka defense but couldn't put anything behind the strong netminding of Kings goalie Owen Say.
The teams continued their back and forth play in the second period until Jacob Howard scored his second of the season at 12:32, assisted by Chase Strychaluk and Dario Beljo who have both been selected to play in the GOJHL's Future Stars game in Waterloo on December 27th. Just a minute later Blake McConnell-Barker scored his second of the game and 10th of the season at 13.34 with assists from Kurt Watson and Jacob Rochford. Say and Komoka D held strong against the Maroons and the period ended 3-0 in favour of the Kings.
Chatham was looking for another one of their 3rd period comebacks but the Kings held until 13:21 when the Maroons put one in the Kings net to cut the lead to 3-1. Maroons had a 12-7 edge in shots in the third period and pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but were not able to get any closer in the score. Kurt Watson scored his 14th of the season in an empty net at 18:48, assisted by Blake McConnell-Barker and Jacob Rochford to seal the game at 4-1 for the Kings.
Owen Say was selected the game's first star for his solid goaltending, Blake McConnell-Barker with his 2 goals and an assist as second star, and Kurt Watson third star with a goal and assist. Honourable mention to Jacob Rochford with 3 helpers in the game.
Kings travel to LaSalle on Wednesday, then to St. Marys on Friday before returning home on Saturday, December 22nd for the final game of 2018 against the Sarnia Legionnaires.
