By Hunter Estevez
New York, NY — On Saturday November 3rd, NYU defeated the Rochester Institute of Technology 5-1 at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers.
Improving their home record to 2-0 this season, NYU used the comfort of playing on home ice to bounce back after going 1-3 in the past two weekends at the University of Rhode Island and Liberty University.
On Saturday night, sophomore Parker Richards opened the scoring for the Violets on a goal from sophomore Isaac Ceh. Richards went on to assist the second goal of the game that was scored by defenseman Andrew Williamson. Williamson’s tally was quickly matched with a goal from RIT just nine seconds later, ending the first period with 2-1 Violet lead.
NYU freshman Blake Howard scored his first goal as a Violet at 16:25 of the second period with assists from juniors Scott Mulligan and Sam Rappaport. The Violets would head into the third period leading 3-1 and outshooting RIT 29-3. In the third period NYU Captain Mason Gallegos scored his third goal of the season at 11:33 with assists from senior John Kowalewski and junior Kohl Donovan. Junior Brandon Ritchey scored the Violets fifth goal that was assisted by sophomore Alex Peck and freshman James Long. Goaltender Patrick Cavanaugh received his third win of the season after stopping 8 of the 9 shots he faced.
This weekend the Violets are scheduled for a home and home series against ESCHL rival, Stony Brook University. The Violets will host the Seawolves on Friday night at Chelsea Piers at 9pm and then on Saturday the series shifts to Long Island at The Rinx in Hauppauge.
