The Leamington Flyers continue to find success at the Highbury Canco arena, as they found revenge dropping their rival, the LaSalle Vipers 6-3.

In their previous meeting Sept. 19 the Flyers were beat in the last minute of the third period. This time while still heated Leamington set the tone early.

Just two minutes in, Michael Andrews capitalized on a turnover walked in a buried a shot high above Vipers goaltender James Walker. However, to close out the frame, Zane Dalpe was able to recover a loose puck around Flyers goalie Ryan Polidori’s crease to tie the game with 50 seconds remaining in the period. Shots in the opening frame were 9-6 in favor of LaSalle.

Period two began much of the same for the hometown Flyers. They received strong shifts from their top line of Griffin Robinson, Maddux Rychel and Jake Nimmo and would be rewarded for their offensive prowess 7 minutes in. Rychel would be the one who beat Walker. To close out the frame, Polidori would be beat again, this time by Evan Ferguson, who snuck the puck high and by him. Skating into the intermission the teams were tied at 2’s, setting up for an interesting third period of action.

The Flyers faithful would get a jump 7 minutes in, as Johnny Ulicny filled in on the top line and got rewarded, as he blew a snapshot by Walker’s gloveside to give the Flyers their third lead of the night. But the Vipers would respond with a goal of their own in just under 3 minutes. After getting a pair of looks earlier in the game, the Leamington powerplay came out flying for the third period. They hemmed the Vipers deep in their defensive zone and Jake Nimmo capped off a beautiful passing play to give the Flyers the lead. 56 seconds later, Kade McKibbin would double the lead as he capitalized on a turnover in the neutral zone and squeaked the puck through Walker’s pads. Rychel would add an empty netter, as Leamington prevailed 6-3.

The Robinson, Ryhcel, Nimmo line did a brunt of the offensive lifting for the Flyers as they combined for 8 points on the night. The Flyers also showed off their depth, getting offensive contributions from three lines.

The Flyers now have a quick turnover before they are back in action Friday, September 28 when they travel to St. Mary’s. For Leamington forward Michael Andrews it will be a homecoming of sorts, having spent last season with the Lincolns.

Andrews said tomorrow’s game will be a new experience for him.

“I’m a little nervous, it’ll be different sitting on the away bench instead of the home but I’m looking forward to it. St Mary’s treated me well last year, but I am with Leamington now and I am excited for tomorrow,” said Andrews. “I think if we come out strong we should be able to battle and come away with a couple points. I think my line has started to come along, especially scoring tonight has helped my confidence and our chemistry overall and hopefully we continue it into tomorrow.
